Tips to make perfect iced tea at home!

Perfect iced tea at home

Iced tea is a summertime staple so let's make sure yours is the bomb!

These tips are for brewing with hot water then chilling, for the cold brew method watch this space for a future blog post :)

The most important thing to remember is that you’re going to be diluting your tea with more water than usual so you need to brew it longer and stronger, plus when you add ice that’s even more water so don’t be afraid to go stronger than you normally would. If you're not sure how much tea to use don't stress! Just go with at least 4 teaspoons per litre.

Use a heatproof jug, boiling water and infuser to steep your tea (scroll down for some suggested steeping times). Then allow to cool a bit before popping in the fridge.

Here’s some more tips for the perfect iced tea -

  • Go for quality - we can help you with that ;) A supermarket tea bag will obviously do the trick but if you want to really enjoy that flavour then a good loose leaf is best.
  • If you're adding sugar or a sweetener put it in while your water is still hot for easy disolving.
  • Remove your infuser before chilling. It's important to make your tea strong but you don't need to leave the leaves in the tea when you put it in the fridge.
  • Get creative! Add some fresh or preserved fruit for extra flavour. Dehydrated citrus from somewhere like Mary Valley Food Co or I Am Thirsty will make it super luxe.

These are our favourite blends to enjoy on ice -

Super Acai - awesome colour, great with some fresh raspberries thrown in when you're ready to serve. Steep for at least 15 minutes before popping in the fridge.

Glow - tastes amazing on its own but try it with a dehydrated orange slice - perfection! Steep for a minimum 10 minutes before chilling.

Premium Organic English Breakfast - classic iced tea vibes, add a couple of teaspoons of sugar/sweetener for that old-school sweet tea experience. Steep for at least 5 minutes.

So here's cheers! Make the most of the warmer weather and enjoy your cuppa on ice :)
